Students in this course will travel as a group to one of Disney's theme parks.
Orlando, Florida: If we travel to Walt Disney World in Orlando, florida, we will stay at least 7 days (plus two travel days) at Walt Disney World Resort. This field trip will take place over our Winter Semester break. While at Walt Disney World, we will visit all four WDW theme parks, ride every major attraction, attend every live-action theatrical event, and explore every themed area of the parks. Students will meet daily with the instructor to discuss the religious dimensions of Disney ideology as experienced at the theme parks. A valid passport is required for this course.
Our field trip breakdown will look something like this:
Day One - Arrival day – check in to hotel, meet with professor to discuss details of the next week’s events.
Day Two – The Magic Kingdom
Day Three –The Magic Kingdom
Day Four – EPCOT – Future World
Day Five – EPCOT – World Showcase
Day Six – Open day – revisit The Magic Kingdom or EPCOT to complete anything still undone, visit Downtown Disney, Resort hop (visit the Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, Animal Kingdom lodge)
Day Seven – Hollywood Studios
Day Eight – Animal Kingdom
Day Nine – departure day.
Paris, France: Although this course will normally involve a field trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the location of the field trip can at times be changed to another of Disney's internation theme parks. Currently, plans are underway to consider a field trip to Disneyland Paris. Our field trip breakdown to Disneyland Paris would look something like this:
Day One/two - travel days. Flights to Paris from Newfoundland are often overnight flights.
Day Three - Disneyland Paris
Day Four - Disnelyand Paris
Day Five - Walt Disney Studios Park
Day Six - Walt Disney Studios Park or Disneyland Paris
Day Seven/Eight - free time - students may arrange side trips to Paris, or other destinations in Europe, at their own expense.
Day Nine - departure day
